Jesus on Money: "A Healthy Relationship with Money"
Matthew 13:44-46
· It’s easy to relate to money in an unhealthy way:
o Security o Status o Self-worth o Comfort
· Jesus sets a boundary on money: It is not and cannot be more valuable than the kingdom of heaven.
o A healthy relationship with money is born from treasuring the kingdom of heaven most
· The kingdom of heaven: o Is currently not a realm or place but a reign and rule of Jesus in His followers’ lives (Luke 17:20-21; John 18:36)
o Is most valuable and offers: § Salvation § Living hope § Spirit-empowered life § Purpose in life and suffering § Unconditional love
o Is open to all who humbly turn from living for themselves to live for Jesus (Matthew 4:17; 5:3)
· Keeping a healthy relationship with money requires me to invest in the kingdom of heaven (i.e., give it away to God’s work).
